Cyanne pepper. It works like a charm to keep squirrels and raccoons out of garbage and gardens. Just use some vinager and Cyanne and you will notice a difference.
Pellet Gun and good aim
A cat, a dog or try some cayenne pepper sprinkled on the areas. I had a red squirrel eating my wicker furniture. He seemed attracted to the new paint I applied (yick!) but he got a taste of that hot red pepper and is now leaving my furniture alone.
Yeah I agree hot sauce
I agree with hot pepper. There is a squirrel-repelling packaged variety, but it's gotta be cheaper just to use red pepper or cayenne. Watch out for windy days ... don't get it in your eyes or nose.
Birds don't seem to care.
I overheard someone just the other day say that they had put small mirrors in their garden to ward away rabbits. I wonder if that would work for squirrels too?!!
Cayenne Capsican Pepper is sold in bulk at garden stores. It did not work for me on LI. Try removing plants etc that attract the squirrels- tulip bulbs are a favorite and they will eat pepper to get them. Trim tree branches that are close to the garden. Put hair (from your pet, or the barber) in the garden- it works for bunnies.
Cayenne pepper might work, but if you have some spice loving squirrels, then you're outta luck. Coyote urine works best. You can buy it on the internet. I think they sell it in crystalized form. Sprinkle coyote pee all over and the squirrels will be mysteriously absent. I know it sounds like I am jerking your chain, so I have provided a link for it. Just google "coyote urine"
My neighborhood adjoins a wooded area that houses several squirrel families. I put a squirrel feeder on a landscaping timber at the FAR corner of my property and filled it with black-oil sunflower seeds. The furry little suckers have never since (in 2 years) ventured farther into my yard than their squirrel feeder. Since the squirrels have already staked out their territory, the feeder does not attract more squirrels; it just feeds the ones that already live there. This is more humane and cheaper and less time-consuming than dogs, guns, traps, chemicals, and squirrel repellants. After all, the squirrels were there before I moved in.
i try ed a ultra sonic deterrent but the squirrels in England are made of stern stuff and weren't bothered at all . In the end my 9 year old daughter suggested a large pump action water pistol so we keep two by the back door fully loaded .It is a friendly way of getting rid of them and is good fun .
