Can anyone identify this plant?
Question:http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p31/s...
In this picture, it is next to a 6-foot tall fence, as to provide an idea of how big these are. The stem is really thick, and last year we had to cut down the stalks with a machete. It grows about a foot every 1-2 weeks.
Answers:
It's called a Princess Tree or Empress Tree. Kill it now. Hack it down, spray every last bit of it with Roundup. It will come up again, spray those sprouts with Roundup. It will come up again, spray those sprouts with Roundup.
After about 6 rounds of that, you might kill it. I had one that I let get about 12 feet tall in my yard to see what it was. It took 2 years to finally kill it.
Oh Lord! My Mom gets those. You can cut off a limb and stick it in the ground and it will produce a new tree! They are like kudzu, you can't kill them and they NEVER go away once you get them. They just pop up out of nowhere even when you think your rid of them. Kill them out as soon as you can and as thoroughly as you can. They get HUGE and spread amazingly fast.
Doesn't look like a "mile-a-minute"
Go to your state's website, type in a search string "invasive plants," and see what pops up. I get the feeling you have an invasive
BTW, you can cut it and use some stump killing chemical to prevent it from returning
LOL It's a weed that's been allowed to grow that tall.
something japanese, knotweed maybe?aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa...
Oh yeah it's a weed. Might be a kind of lambsquarter.
One grew in my back garden 2 metres in 2 weeks. It's sap was really milky so its a bit poisonous.
Pull it out by the roots.
Sure looks like a thimbleberry; Rubus parviflorus
Deciduous Shrub; Height: 8 ft.; Growing ease: Medium

The weed growing is Paulownia tomentosa also known as "Empress Tree" it can grow 15 feet in one year and in a few years if it is not controlled, will become a tree. The roots can sprout suckers so to controll it, you would have to kill the entire root.
To control it, you must use either RoundUp! and or cut the stem at the soil line. You will have to repeat the process several times to kill the root. New shoots should be cut immediately so the leaves cannot photosynthesize and the root will run out of sugars and die.
This should control the weed.
I'll say hollyhock, does it flower? leave it grow to check.
See http://www.desert-tropicals.com/plants/m...
Can also be Paulownia tomentosa See http://www.nps.gov/plants/alien/fact/pat...
On a photo and without seeing the flowers, it is not easy to decide.
