Are UK-grown figs edible?

Question:I have a fig tree in my garden. It has some wonderful large fruit on it, which look ripe and feel soft. I tried one but it's not very sweet. Is it ok to eat the fruit of a UK-grown fig tree or am I likely to cause some very upset tummies in my family?

Answers:
Yes you can eat them
I am disappointed with mine this year seem dry?

Yes...I was once given a basket of them by the head gardener at Lambeth Palace...I worked at the museum nearby and he told me that they came from the same trees that were there when Henry Eighth was around apparently.

They were amazing!
No they'll be fine, I grew them and they were very tasty.
Yes they can be eaten. I have a veriety called Brown Turkey in my garden and the fruit taste great. Make sure that you protect the fruit from slugs and snails though!
