I used Biologic's perfect pond on mine. I have a 4.5 acre pond in my back yard. It seemed to work well. It took longer than another recomendation which is 0-46-0 fertilizer.

I believe both of these treatments contain mostly Phosphorous which will form a bloom in the water which restricts sunlight and oxygen to the algae. Get some tips from someone on how much to put out and how frequently. you don't want to kill it very fast as the algae will consume oxygen as it dies. this oxygen is very important to the fish.

I also recomend contacting a local extension service for advise

a fountain> or do you mean an aerator, because the aerator will definitely help
you put tones Clorox
It depends a lot on the water source and type of pond you are making--

If you are making a cement pond, therefore creating a scenario where there is no way for silt and dirt to get in it, then there's not much of a problem!

However, If you have a pond where it is fed by a spring of water, then naturally you will have algae get into it, due to the fact that as the water is contained, it is not flowing and is therefore, allowed to heat as it is confined to one area, and it is deprived of the oxygen in which is created to clean the water in streams as it flows over rocks and such.

So, It would be advisable to place a cement or concrete bottom in it and a means in which to trap silt and mud from entering the pond, and you would need a very large filter aerator to clean the pond once it is finished start to finish. Most filtering machines have an applicator mechanism in which to apply large chlorine tablets to kill any scum forming bacteria.

One last note: be sure to place some type of vegetation on the steep sides (if it has steep sides) to help prevent any erosion from happening.

Good luck!
At a TSC store,we bought a product "algae clear" or similar name that turned our pond a dark blue-then dark green to inhibit algae plant growth . It doesn't hurt the plants or fish. Then we put a zinc product-from the same farm store in it to cause the already existing algae to turn brown and sink. We have a windmill to circulate the water. It works great when there is wind. The algae forms when there is no breeze for a few days. Ask the T.S.C. person about the products and they'll know what to tell you to get. They work for the entire summer. Enjoy your pond! Ours is a third acre. You can use more or less of the products for your needs.
you already got alot of good ideas i dont want to repeat
