My house is hot!?
Question:dont have AC. dont have a fan. it 83 degrees. cant sleep. i tried cracking a window. didnt help. cold showers dont seem to do much. now im sweating. how can i cool my house down? all lights are off. all shades on windows are closed. no sunlight is getting in our house. so why am i still hot? i cant sleep with 83 degrees. even if im naked, i still cant sleep. help!

We just finished a day of temperatures in the high 90s. With a humidex of 104. MY house is still in the 90 degree range.
Instead of having a cold shower, have a hot bath. The air will feel so much cooler once you get out that it will feel wonderful. Then pat yourself dry, and rub in some baby powder/cornstarch. Then get into cotton panties and a cotton singlet, and sleep in those, on top of your sheets.
Unfortunately, I don't have that option. My youngest daughter has chosen tonight to bleach (streak) her hair, my other daughter's hair, and her boyfriend's hair. THEY are using up all the hot water for themselves!
Apply rubbing alcohol liberally to your skin. This will cool you down in no time. When the alcohol evaporates, it cools you down.
Why don't you try fans, you need air to circulate in there. It will cool it down a little bit but not considerable. If you can't afford central air, try a window air conditioner. But if you can't afford that, you need to get fans to circulate air in there. I use to have 8 of them in my place before I got central air, it helped some and made it manageable.

Why would anyone in your situation not even have a fan? A box fan is about 10 bucks at Walmart. Get a fan and put it in front of you. Keep a wet wash cloth and pat yourself down. Get a spray bottle and mist yourself with ice water. Do this in front of a fan and you'll be fine. For sleeping, if you put a box fan in the window, the nightime temps should be tolerable with a breeze on you in your bed.
