Why are half of my boxwoods turning yellow/brown?

Question:

Answers:
Sounds to me like they have too much water and too little food.
You know not all soil in a garden is alike, some lack nutrients depending on what has grown there before. Have you checked the roots to see that they are nice and loose and not wound around from being in their containers, that is sometimes a problem.

You might want to check into parasitic root nematodes. Boxwoods are notorious for having them, and you could try everything in the book and nothing will help. Dig up a few roots and send them to your local extension agent. This will only give you an answer, as there really isn't a cure for this pest.
