Why do my impatiens die?

Question:About one fourth of the impatiens I put in a planter by my house die every year. They just keel over and when I pick them up to replant, the roots are jaut all dead and rotted. Why and how do I prevent this annoying problem?

Answers:
Unusual because they love lots of water. In fact you can buy one impatiens plant, take multiple cuttings and put in a pot of water. Wait a few days and they put out loads of roots.

Perhaps the compost is too heavy or are you planting up in clay soil?

They like lots of natural light, maximum sunlight.

Hope this helps.

It sounds like your soil is too wet and the roots rot. I have soil that is clay like and I get that alot. Next time you plant dig the hole bigger put in some miracle grow potting soil and they should do better, the potting soil helps with drainage and nutrients. Good luck.
