How do I care for a Hibiscus?
Question:I am thinking of getting a Hibiscus. Any ideas? How should I care for it, and where should I put it? And how much should I water it, what are your experiances? I'm thinking of having it next to my piano, and it get a medium amount of sun there. How long does it bloom? And when does it bloom? Thanks in advance.
Answers:
Hibiscus likes plenty of sun, & will bloom a lot if it gets it. It even grows in the desert where temps will go to 115F. In the desert, it's good for it to get a couple of hours of shade & frequent watering. Put it right by a sunny window, & see if it does alright--keep an eye on it. Too little sun & it may become weak & die. Or, if it only gets enough sun to survive, it won't bloom. I love hibiscus. It normally blooms spring to summer. Unpruned, it can get to about 8 feet.
i eat mine with buttah and hunnie
I just keep mine watered, feed& keep the bugs away
Hibiscus require at least 6 hours direct sun each day to bloom. They don't do well as an inner room plant and will tend to be susceptible to various insects as an interior plants(aphids, mealy bugs, spider mites love them). They like to be moderately moist, like humidity, regular fertilizer, and warm temperatures. If they get too dry they will have a few yellow leaves a few days later and may drop their flower buds. You can tell if your plant is in too low light if the flower buds don't develop or those that are on the plant develop part way but drop off just before opening. It is possible to grow one indoors but light is the limiting factor. You can use a grow light to supplement limited light. Systemic insecticides will control bugs. Water regularly but do not let the plant become waterlogged or sit in water for days on end . Timed release fertilizer is a good idea too.
