Looking for advice on quick growing tropical look screening - not too dense, to grow 8-12ft high approx!?

Question:

Answers:
Go with the tall annuals; Castor bean, sunflowers, variegated corn, amaranth until your shrubs and perennials take hold.

Try clumping live bamboo. NOT runner bamboo (it will take over everything). Doing a google search should yield some species that don't get too awful tall.
That all depends on where you live.

I prefer edibles, so I would plant passion fruit or honey suckle. They will require posting and something to grow on.

If you are looking for trees, then your best bet is to do a bush cherry or an evergreen.
I live in Florida. I would recommend giant Bird of paradise which has a definite tropical look or perhaps bamboo palms which will give you the screen effect without the problems of spreading rizomes associated with true bamboo. Hope this helps your decision process!
