Does anyone know how I can get a load of dirt for free (that is fairly good).?

Question:I do not have any money and I want to make a mound and plant some colorado spruce trees. But I need dirt and the trees. Does anyone know how I can obtain 3 or 4 trees and some dirt that is somewhat healthy...

Answers:
You should be able to get fill dirt for free using some of the previous 'answers' but you need to enhance it to produce soil. Many cities offer free or inexpensive compost from recycled yard waste, check it out. You can get 10 trees from the Audubon Society for a $10 membership. Your County Agent should be able to direct you to the soil conservation people who sell trees for as little as 50 cents each. RScott

You don't just need "dirt" you need topsoil, and it ain't free!
Occasionally, people will give away dirt , but you usually have to remove it yourself. Check your local newspaper classified ads, or put an ad in there yourself. Check under "building materials, free, etc."
You can put a sign in your yard "Clean fill wanted" that way anyone trying to get rid of dirt knows where you are. Then you can add a bit of compost, peat moss etc. The trees are to be found in a nursery in the fall, call around and ask in Oct. what they would charge you for 4 trees. Amazing deals can be found in the fall when nurseries are getting ready to close down. Hope this helps
