How do I jump start my riding mower?
Question:I have a Craftsman Riding mower and the battery is dead. The battery isn't marked on which is positive and negative. There is an orange wire going to one of the terminals and nothing to the next. Which is which? Thanks!

YOU MUST BE KIDDINg!! AN adult would read the instruction booklet or call the store of purchase..You should not be wasting any ones time with such a ridiculous question..shame on you..
Take the battery out, go to Wal Mart and trade it in for a new one. Will cost you about $25.00
Never assume anything when it comes to batteries, They can explode and damage you and your mower. Call your local dealer that sells the batteries and take it in to them to check. Might see if the battery is under warranty and maybe get a new one out of it...worth a try?? A red or orange color indicates a charge and a black indicates the opposite. Just like jumping a vehicle battery with cables.
If you take a fine soft wire brush and clean the battery off on the top around the terminal, you will be able to see the - or + sign on it. Rub your finger across the battery next to the terminal and see if you can feel the - or + on it. Some have signs, some just say it.
Every Craftsman product has a very detailed Owners Manual, this covers all aspects of your particular product. You need to find the mower product number (possibly under the seat). Go to Sears.Com - they have a menu driven website where you can download the manual. If you don't want to go through that, call 1 - 800 - 341 - 2516, give the operator the model number of your mower and tell her that you want to purchase an Owners Manual. There will be a small shipping/handling charge. The product number will be a 3 digit number, then a period, then a 6 digit number.
