How to care for avacado plant?

Question:avacado plants are now 2ft tall from the pits of the fruit. I need to know if the soil needs to be a special mixture and/or any special vitamin regime?

Answers:
First of all, I am assuming that you are growing these avocados in a warm local like California or Florida!!

If you are in a location with many avocado trees in the neighborhood, you will be OK. Avocados varieties are called Type A or Type B. You really need one of each to have good fruit set. You will need to consult a good gardening book (like Sunset Western Garden Book) to tell which varieties are which!!

Here is what avocados need:

Drainage: It should be good. Avoid clay soil. High water tables in rainy season will kill tree.

Watering: Keep soil moist, but not wet with light frequent watering. Let the fallen leaves stay as mulch.

Fertilizing: Feed young trees lightly. Mature trees need 1# of nitrogen per year split in two feedings (spring and summer).

Good Luck!!
