How do you stop tree rot?

Question:my tree in the backward has tree rot how do i stop it?

Answers:
What kind of rot is that and what value of tree? If the tree is not a fruit tree but has head branches break off and get fungus on the broken edges you may be able to prune the breaks into clean cuts that will be free of decay. If it is a fruit tree it may have other diseases from insect infestation.

If the tree is large enough and attractive enough that it should be saved have someone come in and take a look at it. They can tell you what needs to be done. If it is a small junky one cut it down before it falls on the house.

try that site or do a search on yahoo for what kind of tree it is.
cut back to the healthy part and then spray the end with "tree dressing."
I would call a landscaping nursery, and ask them!
