Catnip guard ideas?
Question:I recently purchased a catmint plant and planted it in my herb garden. Then, that very night, rouge neighborhood cats thrashed it leafless...it's still alive though, and trying to come back, but I need to find a small scale method of protecting it.
Answers:
Go to a thrift store or yard sale and buy a birdcage. Throw out the "floor" and place it over the plant. It leaves everything exposed to full sun, but protects the plant.
Why did you put a catnip plant where rogue kitty cats could get to it?..perhaps keep it in a pot...indoors. Otherwise fashion a wire cage for it although rogue cats can be very persistent and inventive in trying to get into it again..after all catnip is like irresistible weed to cats lol...
catnip plants are for cats.. you might need to dig it up and plant it in a pot inside... thats the only way of keeping cats out of it.good luck!
You need to make a cage for it, and it needs to be strong enough to stand up to like charging elephants or a category 5 hurricane that has F6 tornados inside.
Sink posts into the ground deep enough that them pulling on it won't rip it out. Use chicken wire stapled to the posts.
Wouldn't love to watch them though? I watched my catnip plant get thrashed, and although my cats didn't get any, it was pretty hysterical to watch the neighborhood cats go nuts.
Make a cage out of hardware cloth
I got thousands of catnips plants all over my yard. Want some? They are a noxious weeds to me! I got a cat and the neighborhood is full of wild cats and they never thrash my catnip plants.
If you plant it in tall pots the cat will not mess with it. Just make sure he can't jump down to it from something else
