Air drying a rose?
Question:how to preserve a single rose
Answers:
Ok there are two, ways to do this, Ok three...you can take one stem(or several) and hang them upside down in a cool, dry place for about two weeks...this method has been used for hundreds of years...The danger here is that unless the hip is very small the bloom could rot before it dries...A minor consideration...Another way is to cut the stem about an inch from the base of the flower, insert a wire(about 22 gage) just under the flower...again hang in a cool dry place...the drying time is again about two weeks...The third method is best reserved to single roses such as Betty Prior, or Knock Out;...It involves a product called "silica gel"...It is a sandlike product, that wicks moisture out of most things...Follow the directions on the package.
Hang it upside down in a cool moist place.
Put it into a vase without water. Leave it in the air and it will dry. The color will change slightly. If you just want the single flower, you can cut it from the stem and I place mine in a basket to dry. I dry all my flowers the same way to make potpourri. It also works in a paper bag but it needs to dry out and I am afraid moisture will cause mold to form as someone else suggested.
i hang mine upside down until dry.. then place then in a vase.. i have all the flowers that my hubbie has ever gotten me in a vase on top of my dresser. and the flowers from my daughters baby shower .. dried upside down and place in a big jar with some other mementos. then sealed with the lid
