What bush do I plant to keep flies etc away from backdoor?

I have a large tub of eau de cologne mint thats suppossed to deter them. You can also keep it in the house. Also, I have been told that in France the reason they have window boxes of geraniums outside is to deter flies.
No bushes because any type of bush encourages all insects
your solution is not by planting any type of bushes. any plants will attract some kind of insects. are you using a yellow bulb with your exterior lighting to detract the insects. can you screen and extend that area into a patio area.
Hang water-bags outside the door.
Forget the bush. If you have a fly screen, thread and knot a cotton wool ball onto a piece of cotton, pass the cotton through the fly screen from outside and back out through a different hole in the mesh, then thread and knot the cotton to another cotton ball. Have the balls dangle about 5 inches down so that they just touch each other. Presto - it keeps the flies away. Try it ...at worst your friends and neighbours will think you've gone crazy.
Not really a bush, but a pot of basil is meant to deter flies.
