How do I eradicate moss on my lawn?
Question:The garden feels very spongy and the grass is thick.
Answers:
moss is a pioneer species and since it doesnt have a root system can easily establish its self particularly in the wetter, darker winter months. if you allow thwe lawn to dry out and then rake the dried moss out of the lawn that should get rid of it.
Moss usually gets established in a lawn because of bad drainage. Possible also because of poor sunlight.
Improve the situation, don't buy all the cures they will sell you in the garden centre.
Hope this helps.
You need a specific herbicide that kills only moss, and not the grass. I think it is called 2-4 D, but may be wrong. Any good garden centre has it.
moss killer should see you right but will leave your lawn black an a bit bare, but some sand and grass seed should see it OK
Apply lawn sand (follow instructions on packet).
Improve drainage.
Remove trees etc causing heavy shade.
Rake out moss.
Feed with nitrogen rich fertiliser.
Good luck.
when the grass is dry rake out the moss then apply lawn sand, the drainage of your lawn needs to be improved, it could be your lawn is too shaded, due to hedges ,or trees.
