Permaculture: Local Council spends £30,000 getting rid of 'garden waste' a year. Any suggestions?
Question:In our local council news our council is asking people to compost their own 'Green Waste' as it is costing them £30,000 pa. They do not collect green waste in our area.
You may like to consider why the council insists on cutting all council owned grass. Why are people given warnings and financial penalties for allowing their lawns to naturalize?
What would you suggest to our council?
Answers:
1. Change their mowers to line trimmers rather than solid steel blades and they wont have to worry about breaking glass bottles in the grass, it will cost less than the annual £30K for disposal and they will no longer have any excuse not to compost it all.
2. Stop making excuses.
Address the issue at your next election. Vote the bums out of office.
your council is in a great position to have a very lucrative compost operation ,using their equipment and manpower and probably space they got
with all of the wastes produced by a comunity .such as the abatoirs and markets plus the cuttings from urban greenery
added to manure from the outskirts of town of freeholds and farms
if the farmer was stupid enough to get rid of his manure
Obviously they lack people with sight or the ability to calculate
