Can I put outdoor carpet (about 12x12 ft) on my lawn and arrange a grouping of furniture on it?
Question:I want something I can mow around, not have to move furniture, have a surface that's friendly to bare feet where the furniture is. But I'm wondering if the outdoor carpet will hold up?
Answers:
Ten years ago I needed to disassemble paint and reassemble some office furnishings and didn't have room in my shop. I retrieved a 12x12 chunk of commercial beige carpet from a dumpster and laid it on an area of lawn I had been planning to reseed for years. After the painting was done it some how became a natural spot for a few chairs, now it's become another patio. It stays clean with the occasional squirt with the hose and shows no signs of deteriorating except to trim a few frayed edges from the weed wacker. And if you need a few worms for fishing all you have to do is lift a corner. And no I don't live in the third trailer down from Bubba. RScott
depending on the weather where you are, if its generally dry, it may hold up for a season.
however, if it is very rainy, or humid where you are, it will probably get moldy pretty quick.
I have had indoor / outdoor carpet on my back porch for over 10 years and still going. And it is cheap enough if something does happen to it, you can always buy more.
Wal Mart has them in rug type sizes, or Home Depot and Lowes has it by the square foot. Sounds like a good idea.
Depending on the carpet product certainly, and the weather conditions. Just be aware that you will very likely toss it by the season's end due to UV damage and general rot. Outdoor carpet will degrade over time. How you take care of it limits or accelerates that process.
If the area is stable and flat anyway, ever thought about just laying lumber or stones?
