Powdery mildew is a common turfgrass fungal disease in shady areas. Powdery mildew is easy to identify; as grass appears whitish/gray in color. Powdery mildew develops primarily on Kentucky bluegrass, though it can occur on other grass species. It occurs in spring and fall during humid conditions and moderate temperatures. It is generally not considered a serious threat. You should choose shade tolerant grasses and follow good shade lawn management practices. Remember that fungicides are preventative. If you already have the signs of powdery mildew (Grey powdery patches on your lawn), the fungicide from WalMart ain't going to do you any good now. A fungicide must be applied when conditions are right for the fungal growth but before the infestation occurs. They are strictly preventative! They help to keep the fungal spores from entering the grass leaf. They can not repel the fungus once it has breached the leaf epidermis. Yea, I know that powdery mildew is primarily on the surface of the grass balde, but this fungus reaches into the grass bade for nourishment. Your grass is already infested and the green bottle from Walmart will do nothing at this point.
go to walmart and get the green bottle of 3 in 1 fungucide spray, and spray the areas! it'll solve the problem for ya!
