I have many young raspberry bushes. Could some one tell me what I can put around them to help them grow,?
Question:and produce more berries? Organic, please.
Answers:
Raspberries are related to roses. You can use the same orgnics that you would for roses to help the grow and bloom. Try using used coffee grounds and used tea leaves (empty the bags), put them on the soil around the plants and gently work it into the soil.
Also, many of the organic composts will help with the growth of the raspberries.
Just a note, with these being young plants, they will most likely not produce berries this year. Next years production may not be very good. It does usually take about 2 years to start getting really good berry production from new plants and even from transplanted plants.
I started with 1 raspberry plant which I let self propogate. The nest year it produced maybe a cup of berries, but had also spawned about 4 other bushes. The year after that, letting them all propogate, I had 20 bushes, and produced 1 quart of berries. This year, I have close to 50 bushes, and have already harvested 6 quarts and 1 pint of berries, and I still have berries that I need to pick.
Good luck.
Organic raspberry fertilizer - go to you garden center.
I use peat moss & sheep manure plus compost from my compost pile.
I also mulch every year with straw from a local farmer to keep the moisture in the ground.
Just water it everyday, but if you see water sitting at the bottom of the bush, don't water it.
