Hi, does anyone know how to get rid of tree roots without killing the tree?
Question:I have a fir tree in my front garden and it's roots are now buckling my drive way and could spread next door.
Answers:
the tree was there before the drive way cutting the roots that go under the drive way should not harm the tree maybe set it back a bit but it has other roots going other directions
That is like cutting someones head off and expecting them to stay alive.
The answer is...you can't
Unfortuantely, it just isn't going to happen. If you kill enough roots, the tree dies - sort of like cutting your esophagus and windpipe, and then expecting YOU to live.
You can't. Get rid of the fir tree, You might need a specialist firm to do it for you. If you need a tree get a smaller decorative tree like a birch or a rowan,
It is possible to trim a few roots (like they have to do for bonsai trees), but fir trees have a wide root base which is not deep - it has nothing to anchor itself into the ground. So, trimming a few of the worst roots out would not only reduce the nutrients getting into it it would also undermine its stability & make it more likely to just fall over in the wind!
