i don't know about a permanent fix but it's suppose to be environmentally safe
I know it seems like a long time to wait, but the best time to reseed your lawn (for it to be a real, permanent fix!) is in the fall. The seed will lay dormant until spring, when copious springtime rains will help a full, well-rooted lawn grow in. Trying to reseed now will require lots and lots of watering - easier on you and your water bill to hold off a bit. Good luck!
