Does anyone know the best way to remove a large tree stump form the ground?
Question:I have tried chemicals to erode the stump, a chainsaw, etc. to get it out, but not much luck. Thanks

Go to your local rental center that rents out larger equipment and rent a "stump grinder." Follow directions and be careful. If you aren't handy, contact a local tree service. They will grind the stump down below ground level. Usually between $50 and $100 depending on the size of the stump. Then you will have nice mulch too.
The best thing I would do to remove it is, call a tree service. They should have a stump grinder. It will be gone that day.
wrap a chain around it and pull it out with a tractor..thats how we do it here in tx
I have heard that the best method is to burn the stump out.
Dynamite is the quickest way! :-)
In addition to the other suggestions, however, if you must remove it by hand, try digging up and cutting some of the roots on the side opposite from where you can pull from (using tractor, vehicle, winch, block&tackle, etc), and then as you pull on the stump, if clearance is adequate, cut more roots as you can get at them.
As always, if you pull on something, be careful about where you are in relation to the taught cable/chain/rope, as it can hurt or kill you if it breaks.
you mentioned chemicals, the one i have read says after a period of time, you can pour kerosene into the porous stump and then light it. the stump should just smolder and get crumbly for easy removal
the simplest way would be to hire or rent a stump grinder. however if you can where you live. take a metal ring or bucket that will fit over the stump. it will need a small hole in the top to serve as the chimney and a notch somewhere on the side that is on the ground to serve as a draft opening. soak the stump with diesal fuel pile some charcoal on top of it and light it once the charcoal is burning good place the container over it and the stump will burn up including most of the roots just leaving you a hole in the ground you can fill with top soil
A stump grinder is the best way. I would just hire it done.
How big is the stump, and where is it ? Do you know what kind of tree it was ?
A chainsaw will go dull when it hits dirt.
We took out a pine 30 inches across. To get the stump out, we dug out a hole big enough for a Volkwagen bug. It was great exercise. Sharpened my axe a few times. Some roots were a foot across.
if your not in a big hurry to get rid of it, try drilling some holes in it and adding some salt. the stump will decay in time
