What is a safe way to decrease PH of Koi pond water while fish are present?
Question:In Tampa, FL the water supply is highly buffered and I can't seem to break through the buffer to decrease the PH in my Koi pond water by the usally products that safely lower PH without killling the Koi and plants present in the pond.
Answers:
you need to go to that pet place and order a good book, koi and goldfish like a slightly higher pH and the buffers in the tampa water are good, they make the water more stable.
Tough one... Because an acidic product is the only thing that will decrease the ph.
Visit a pool supplies store. I know aquariums add salts to being the pH back up, when the animals poop brings it down low. But I live in Connecticut, where we get acid rain and a storm alone will do that!
Since you have vertebrates in the water and do not want to remove them, I would check the pH again, call a pond store and give them the reading and ask their opinion. It might need additional filtering or aeration.
