How long do I have before an unopened can of stain goes bad?

Question:I bought a can of Benjamin Moore(Moorguard)semi-transpare... stain that I had mixed to a certain color about 2 years ago to stain my shed. I've kept it in my garage and never opened the can. Can I still use it after mixing it up good or am I better off getting a new can?

Answers:
You can still use your stain but do not shake the can as this will cause bubbles in the can and you won't get the coverage you want. When you open the can take a stir stick and slowly put it in the stain. Make sure you are touching the bottom of the can before stirring. The pigment is at the bottom because it has separated from the oil or water (whichever you have) and you need to bring it up from the bottom slowly. Otherwise the pigment will separate and clump, then it will be useless.

Keyword here is SLOWLY....

Check to see if there is an expiration date anywhere on the can. If you don't see one, call the company and ask; there should be an 800 number listed somewhere on the can. Or, call the store where you purchased the product, they should be able to give some advice.
You can probably use it, I would open it and see.
