How can i clear a clogged drain without calling a plumber?
Question:how can i clear a clogged drain without calling a plumber
Answers:
You can do it, "We Believe" All you need is a pair of channel locks or pipe wrench and take the p-trap off, that's where the clog is usually at. If that's not where the clog is, then you need to ether rent a hand snake or buy one with a 1/4'' cable to unclog it. They can show you how to use it where you get it. Remember to replace the washers on the pipe also so it doesn't leak.
Good Luck....
You can buy some drain-o or some type of product that will unclog your pipes or you can unloose the pipes yourself (like in the kitchen sink or bathrooms) and unclog them yourself. Normally what's clogging them up is sitting in the bottom of your pipes as them curl up at the bottom...I'd done this many, many times!
You can get liquid Drano at the store.. They have the kind you can put in water that is standing still.. It works pretty good. I have to use it when ever my long haired niece comes to visit keke..
tried a plunger?. the chemicals may eat through your plumbing pipes.. or snake it
You can buy a drain auger at any local hardware store for not much, or a closet auger if it is a toilet. Dont bother with liquid drain cleaners, many times they dont work and then you have a sink full of acid. With the drain auger, simply remove the p trap under the sink and run the auger down the drain to loosen the clog. If the clog is between the sink and the p trap just use a piece of wire( and a bucket of course). If you are not able to reach the clog with a hand auger then you would have to rent a longer one. Good Luck.
I am a dispatcher for a plumbing company in California and pouring chemicals down your drains will disolve the stoppage (some of the time) but will also dissolve your pipe. Drano will eat a hole in your pipe and then you have no clog but you have a leak. You can rent a "snake" or "auguer" from Home Depot and do it yourself or you can call a plumber. A simple clog should run you about 85 dollars.
it depends on where you have the clog...
if its in the bathroom/kitchen sink
YOU MIGHT NOT LIKE IT BUT THE EASIEST WAY IS TO USE A PLUNGER....
IF NOT ... there should be a clean-out plug under the sink all you have to do is unscrew it and remove the stuff that WILL come out. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A CONTAINER TO CATCH THE WATER THAT WAS ABOVE THE PLUG..
If that does not work is to remove/take apart the elbows and ALL the small pipes under the sink ( clean them out one by one and then put it back together) JUST MAKE SURE TO PUT IT BACK THE SAME WAY
I use my electrical fish tape it is thinner than the plumbers snakes fits a lot easier.
Have you tried DYNAMITE?....USUALLY LEAVE THIS TASK FOR MY WIFE...just kidding...Snake it out with a hand snake or rent an electrical-snake from a home-depot...Don't try to feed the snake in all at once...feed it in only a few inches at a time..as you connect with a bend in the pipes the snake will fight you to go in..feed in a few inches and keep a forward pressure on the snake until you hit the next turn in the pipe..keep doing this ,eventually you will feel the snake start to go into the pipe more easily...keep going until you see the clog break-up.even after you break-up the clog, feed as much of the snake as you can into the pipe to insure that you either pushed the clog through or hooked it when you pull the snake out..
Try using a Plunger first...just like on your toliet but use a clean one it will work even better than store bought drain cleaners
