Whats the best way to secure a long clothes rail with shelve attached?
Question:Hi, I need to secure a clothes rail (I have tried to do this twice - all my clothes fell off!)
I originally attached a length of wood along the back wall and 2 at the sides. I then attached the pole to the two sides.
I think I need to secure it in the middle and sides, but how? Its a long 6 foot pole that full of clothes, and I want to attach a shelve on top to hold towels & blankets. It will need to hold a heavy weight!
Any suggestions.

They hold the rod and have the shelf bracket. Just mount 3 of them onto the studs in the wall. I use a cheap $8 stud finder, but you can locate a stud with a small nail about an inch and a half long. Slowly tap it into the wall. If it gets harder to tap in you are at a stud. If it pushes right in after about 1/2 an inch, you missed the stud. Some people will tap lightly on the wall to find a solid spot, which should be a stud, but I don't have much luck with that method. If your rail has already fell, a few more small holes shouldn't be a concern. Once you find one stud, the others should be either 16 or 24 inches to the next one.
Big brackets in 3 or 4 places on the underside of the shelf and several pole holders along the pole, spaced 18 inches apart. Hope this helps x
It would probably be best to start by putting up your shelf with plenty of brackets to support it, and then attach your hanging rail to the underside of your shelf, using something like brackets for curtain poles or towel rails. Support the rail in the middle as well as at the ends, to stop it sagging when it's loaded with clothes. Or, you can buy rigid wardrobe rails, and the fixings for them, at DIY places.
I think with all that weight you need to use proper fittings.
This Elfa system is brilliant, 2m wide with shelves and rail should be well under 100 quid
