Is it better to use the spray on insulation or the sheets when insulating a home?

Question:We live in Houston, TX btw.

Answers:
It all depends on who you talk to. The spray on insulation is great because it will better fill in all of the cracks that normal sheets of insulation can miss. On the downside, it is usually more expensive. If you can afford the extra money, I would say go for the spray on insulation, but the sheets of insulation are still good.

my opinion is that spray on insulation will increase the value of your home, and save on your energy bill, so the extra cost is worth it. its also much faster to install.
i'd use neither.owens-corning rolled insulation r-19 for walls and r-30 for attic.wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy... better
If your referring the WET spray cellulose insulation then YES as it fill all the wall cavity, around the wires and it will give you a larger R factor, sound proofing and fire retardant then rolled insulation along with lower utility bills and increase the value of your home. I used to install spray on and I would demonstrate how well the insulation was by placing a hand full in my hand with a piece of copper setting on top of it and with a mapp gas torch melt the copper in my hand and the insulation would not allow the heat to my hands nor would it self contain a flame GREAT STUFF.
Juanita and J are right. An inch of "spray-on" insulation foam, (and there are several types, one of which is a soy based, and therefore NOT petro-chemical goo) will do you more good than any amount of fiberglass will, and will out preform foamboard too. If you completely fill your wall cavities with foam, your home will have several times the insulative value of your freezer. Now THAT'S insulation!
The spray is the best. It is also about 3 times more expensive. On a new house, I would say you could recoup the money in energy savings.
Two inches of spray on Icylene is 90% efficient compared to R 19 which is 15%. For a house I am building now the spray on costs $13,000 compared to $3600 for R19 for the same house. About 4 times as much for 6 times tthe savings in the long run.
