How difficult is it to install laminate flooring yourself? I've heard both sides of the story.?

Question:I would like some answers from people who have actually installed the floors themselves, and personal experiences. Thanks

Answers:
first you make sure you start with a clean surface and a flat surface. If the area isnt flat i recommend using a liquid fast set floor patch to level the areas as best you can otherwise your floor will eventually crack and separate at the spots.if you have a lot of doorways i recommend cutting the door jams to the thicknessof your laminate to slide it under and door casing.squaring the room before you start is important too for your fist row.Since you need to leave a half hinch space between the floor board and wall put little pieces of wood between wall and board to stop it from moving while you put the other ones in.Ask the retailer to give you the little pull bar .This website shows you the pull bar ,if they dont have it installers would know where to get one.Good luck you can do it.http://www.carpettool.net/lamiate_tools.

If you are talking about the "Floating Floor" systems, they are fairly simple. We put one in our kitchen and it only took a few hours (measuring, trips to the garage to cut, etc.) There's not much to it.. lay down the underlay, click the pieces into place and add trim...
I installed laminate about 1 1/2 years ago in a kitchen and dining area. I really had no major problems and it went pretty smooth. Mine was over a concrete slab after removing carpeting and part was over an existing vinyl floor. Just make sure you use the spacers on the perimeter to leave the required expansion space and take your time and read the manufacturers installation instructions. A good quality power miter saw will make the job much easier. Mine came out very nice.
