Noise insulation?

Question:Hi guys,
I live on a busy street with lots of cars passing by everyday. In what ways can I block the noise?

Answers:
There are several things you can do- budget and interest allowing.

Heavy drapes, when closed, can really help attenuate sound from a window, as will double glazed (two thicknesses of glass with air in between) windows.

Dense shrubs outside can also knock down noise- as would a tall fence, if allowed by code and wallet.

Insulation in the walls helps, and there you can find acoustic insulation, specially designed to block noise and heat loss.

Depending on your decorating style (I have NONE), I have also seen a relatively low-cost, and effective solution made from panels of acoustical tile- the drop in ceiling tiles in commercial buildings. Covered in cloth and hung on the walls, it is an effective noise break.

Carpet, big fuzzy furniture, and throw pillows will all help.

Competitive noises will reduce the effect of car noise,so a trickling fountain outside, or small one in-doors will provide some ambient masking noise- ceiling fans can also help.

I hope some combination of these solutions will work for you.

Best of luck and let me know how it turns out.

maybe close your windows more or something...try to do something...good luck!

sometimes that happens to me also..lol
expensive route : double glazing on your windows / doors.
cheap route : turn up the volume on the TV / hi-fi
close area and ear plugs.
If you own the place you can do lots of things.

I am working on soundproofing my condo and these links are some results of my research.
All in all, to keep outside noise outside you need:
1. double pane windows
2. Walls soundproofed with rubber or mass loaded vynil or special soundproof boards which you can fine at http://www.supressproducts.com/products/...
I am not a contractor nor am I associated with any company mentioned in my answer. I am just a homeowner who enjoys DIY projects. :) If you have any specific questions, email me at shvetspeter@yahoo.com
Good luck!
Close your windows and add some blinds and draw drapes.
You can also plant some shrubbery that will grow about eight to ten feet high and create a hedge.
Good windows work but having your walls dense packed with celluose insulation does wonders
If this is a new residence for you, you will adjust to it in no time.
I find the A/C drowns out alot of noise as well.
tell you wife to quit snoring , for starters
I have small Honeywell fans in each room and they are on low all the time. White noise does wonders for masking other noise. Keep windows closed, close the blinds and close the drapes, too.

I have a white noise machine that also has sounds of nature. The waterfall, rain and crickets are my favorites. I keep the tv on low all the time, even if it's on a music station.

I have neighbors that believe leaf blowing should be a daily activity, so I have found ways to keep it quieter around my house. Best of luck to you.
Well you could put some ear plugs or some ear phones so you could listen to music I know it won't block the noise but that the best I got.
