I recently purchased some 12/2 with ground OUTDOOR copper wire. Can it be used indoors as well as outdoors?
Question:I am running an outdoor circuit for a pool filter and pump..I am running a new circuit all the way from breaker in my basement..just wondered if it is legal and ok to use some of the outdoor rated wire indoors as well
Answers:
Yup outdoor wire (UF) can be used inside, but inside wire (romex) can't be used outside. The stuff can be difficult to work with, the best way is to use a razor knife, apply pressure in the little seam in between the wires that are inside, make a slit about an inch long, pull the ends apart, grab each one with a pair of pliers and pull apart, be carefull when using the razor knife, think to yourself 'what will happen if i slip out of this groove / seem' be prepared to mess up and be holding everything in a way so if you do you don't slice your hand and or fingers up.
Yes.
yes you can use it indoors
the nec code says you can
I do not think its a good idea to run through insulated walls and attic spaces for general wiring. was in a house where the fuse box was damaged by lightning I had a short and the fuse did not blow the wire melted the extra thick insulation dripped and smoldered in the attic.
a short run in your basement is no problem
