Antique refinishing??
Question:I have an antique piano that I recently cleaned w/ mineral spirits, moisturized with lemon oil and then sealed with tung oil. Since the piano is getting smudgy and a cabinetmaker friend of a friend told me that it's because I mixed a lemon oil with a teak oil. He said that I will need to wax the piano. He was supposed to come by to show me what I needed to do, but.. Does anyone know what wax he is talking about / where to find it? Also, will I need to get it down to the stain w/ the mineral spirits again? Thank you much!!
Answers:
the wax he was talking about is probably johnson's paste wax. which we use to wax wood floors, do not put throw rugs down after waxing floor. you should not have to re use mineral spirits again, as it will take tung oil off. it will take alot of elbow grease, but you will have unbeatable shine.
I would call a local cabinet manufacturer to ashk just those questions. You really have a mess, do not use just anything to correct it without good sound advise. Check with a piano repair man, he will know someone. good luck.
I would wash it down with mineral spirits and then wax it with thepaste wax from minwax.
.If you have any good old fashioned furniture polish try that on a corner at the bottom, or somewhere not really visible and try it there.
