Its not that hard, but if done incorrectly you could easily burn your house down. I won't tell you, but a library will. Good luck. Find a mechanically inclined friend to help you, or get a electrician.Depending on the location of the outlet figure about $150.00
if its for a a/c you would run a #10 romax from your panel to the outlet
will require a double pole 30 amp breaker look on the panel door and make sure you have enough room in the panel for the added 30 DP breaker
using a #10/2 romax
1 black
1 white
1 bare ground
on the breaker white and black will connect to the breaker one under each screw on the breaker
The bare ground will connect to the neutral bar
On the outlet the black and white will connect to the line side of the outlet
the bare ground will connect to the remaining screw
always mark the white wire with black tape that indicates the white is being used as a hot
Almost every jurisdiction (AHJ) will tell you that you need a permit to install or add any new circuit to your system and that it has to be done by a licensed electrician. Some of those AHJs will allow you to do it if you pass a home owner's exam but you still have to obtain a permit (after paying a fee). It won't make you an electrician but they want to make sure that you know what you are doing. Home Depot or Lowes sell books in how to do it and you can ask their experts then go and take the test. It will give you the satisfaction that now you are legal, even if it is only for your house. I won't kid you, working with electricity is dangerous, but for somebody with no experience is even more so. Not only you can burn your house down but also get killed in the process. If you are not up to it, then hire an electrician.
