Homemade headboard?
Question:after seeing it on some HGTV show, my girlfriend thinks it would be nice to make a headboard... meaning its all on me haha... well it seems simple enough stretch fabric over plywood and foam... but where can i find that foam for cheap? 2' x 3' x 3" was $30 at a fabric place and i would need enough for 50" x 65"... anyone have help?

The fabric project can be very tricky for beginners. It can end up lumpy and unattractive, so if you DO go this route, keep the fabric tight! Fabric stores are full of little old ladies working there that will show you EXACTLY what you'll need- don't be shy, ask for their tips! If the actual fabric is too expensive, do try to match it at Wal-Mart, but get the fabric lady's tips first!
Other options:
*Screwing old shutters together to form a headboard (we created one of these and it gets compliments al the time)
*Floating shelves as a headboard (place frames and lights on them)
*Painted headboard- create a pattern and paint it on the wall- great when used in conjunction with good lighting
walmartttttt..they have it for really cheap! u can also get the spray adhesive for the foam there as well as the staple gun!
Wal mart dude! look in the sewing section. use spray glue to stick it to the wood and to join the foam strips.
My first stop would be the fabric place. Were you looking at a precut piece of foam? Usually they offer foam off a roll that can be cut to order and, might possibly, be a little cheaper. I think your next best bet might be at a carpet store. They might have foam remnants they'd part with cheaply. Good luck.
Wal-Mart is the cheapest. If still more than your budget consider putting cotton batting instead of foam :)
I agree, go with a quite a few layers of batting instead of the foam. Foam is pretty expensive. I made a headboard out of an old door and crown moulding. It is beautiful. Use your imagination. You are a good boyfriend. :)
