Does anyone know if a dimmer light switch works on flourescent strip light?

Question:

Answers:
A normal fluorescent lamp circuit with a ballast is not dimmable, but you can dim special ballasts with special types of dimmers which are either SMART interface or 0-10volts pot. There ARE also dimmable low energy, compact fluorescent lamps available now.

simple answer no.
No - they don't work on low energy bulbs either ;o(
no, howver, our recent "green" movement is improving the technology and promises to off some sort of solution.
It does not. The florescent lights use a ballast that controls the flow of electricity. That ballast needs a constant flow of 110 to operate. Sorry.
You have the correct answers already.
There actually is a special ballast (the thing that controlls the electricity going to the flouresent lights) that will allow a dimmer switch to work, but you have to have it.
Fluorescent bulbs use gas to cause illumination. Incandescent bulbs use a filament. A dimmer on and incandescent bulb lowers the voltage to the wire and it burns with lower light. You cannot lower the voltage on the gas to do this. Walmart is selling a fluorescent (energy saver) bulb that says it can be used with a dimmer. Haven't heard any reports on it though.
No, a regular flourescent tube cannot be used with dimmer.
Hi
Standard Dimmers Dont Work on Strip lighting Or Low energy bulbs But You can I am Sure from special outlets et dimmers for these types of lights.
CHEERS NOSH
Will not work. Fluorescent lights are either off or on.
While they have developed dimmable flourescents, it's a fairly new technolgy and I dont believe it has trickled down to the consumer as yet,
In a word, no.
Have to have dimmable ballast with a fluorescent dimmer.

OR use dimmable CFL's.
nope unless its a flourescent dimmer same thing if you have a 3 way light and you want to put a dimmer on it you have to replace both switches with 3 way dimmer controls
NO it won't. When you switch on a Fluorescent light the current agitates a gas which glows. It either glows on or not there is no in between.
It will not ordinarily.
You need to purchase a dimmable fluorescent fitting for it to work.
# 1, I wouldnt ever use a dimmer switch on ANY light, they are unsafe. My daughters caught on fire behind the wall. When the electrician came to repair, she was told they are not safe, as they heat up and stay hot, and can cause elecrical outlet fires.
