Should the exaust be open or closed on the window unit air conditioner?

Answers:
If you are going to recirculate the air in the room and cool it only, CLOSED.(fastest)
If you are going to use outside air in the mix, OPEN, (once you have reached your desired coolness, to maintain some fresh air intake)
That's probably not an exhaust you're looking at, it's probably a fresh air intake. With it open it is taking air from outside and cooling it and blowing it inside. With it closed it's taking air from inside that's probably already cooler and cooling it some more and blowing it back in.
