Covered patio Ideas?
Question:I live in south Texas. We are plannin on building a covered patio. I don't want the cover to be attached to the house, Just right up next to it (due to hurricanes--just rather have it blow away it it happens, other than tear the Hardy Board on the house also!) I am looking for ideas, I want it 12x12. What is the best flooring option (heat/slippery when wet?) Any web sites for actual measurments on wood needed?
Answers:
We lived in Austin so ours was wood with shingles to match the house and gutters, yes real metal gutters all around with extensions to the lawn.
For flooring, textured concrete can't be beat for ease in cleaning, color staining variations, and price. Another option would be indoor/outdoor carpeting, but it is not easier to clean and gets weird underneath. I had Mexican sage on the public side of the house and normal landscaping everywhere else.
We had a ceiling fan, but never used it except for the light and had those Home Depot misters like the Oasis restaurant used.

don't go to the web for this
but do go to home depot and ask some one that's really knowledgeable on this kind of thing.
after all it what they do for a living to know all of this.
and good luck to you.
What we did to make our patio look especially nice is that we bought this outdoor carpeting (it was expensive, but isn't everything when you're remodeling?) and then we bought these string lights that you can wrap around your whole patio that look very nice. You have to replace them every 6 months or so because some of the lights inside die, but that's not too hard or expensive. We also put plants boxes all around the patio for decoration and added privacy because our patio isn't covered, but you can still use the idea. As for where to go for measurements, I'm not sure, but I hope my other tips help! :)
Yes! go to http://handy-home-products.com/view_all_... they have pergolas in kits you can put up that are not to expensive. After you build the pergola you can put a lightweight roofing like corrugated aluminum or fiberglass on it. For flooring I would use veranda composite decking available at home depot- I used this on my deck and am very happy with it! To go on the cheap and easy and assuming you already have a patio try an alumninum patio cover http://www.versatube.com/carports-shelte... and just stain your patio to whatever color you want. Good luck with your project!
