What would cause new plaster to come off the wall?
Question:just plastered wall and now dried the plaster has "blown" away from wall, any ideas?
Answers:
because the wall is damp is one good reason or the mixture for the plaster was incorrect
I'm not a plasterer, but have watched them work. They "painted" the brick work with water + PVA (a very dilute mixture). They said it stopped the brickwork sucking all the water out of the plaster which stops it sticking.
Hope that helps!
the informer is correct also our plasterer used a pva solution to seal the wall dont know if its special type for plastering but it wasnt dear to get the expert in and he did a great job
it should have had a bonding coat on first.pva and water..
if plaster is falling of wall either it blown or if you are re plastering wall then u need to sill wall with a water profer pva etc
Could be many things, bonding base coat is for non absorbent surfaces, browning base coat is for absorbent/porous surfaces, maybe whatever you used was wrong type, and/or mixed too dry, too wet.
If the plaster has "blown" away from the wall, and it was sealed with pva, I am going to make a guess the plaster was mixed incorrectly.
step away from the wall and put the hammer down
was the plaster coated on when the pva was wet?
it should have been.
Im sorry my love it looks like the mix, however all is not lost, if you live by the sea you get like a furry effect on the plaster this is due to salt rising up from the ground. you can counter act this with aliminium paint. and then paint over it Dulux said it wont work.. balls , it does and i have no furry walls.
hope this helps:)
The order is, PVA glue diluted with water applied first and left to dry( this acts as a sealant the dilution rate is on the container..
Next coat the wall with a second coating of PVA much stronger mix, and while it is still wet you must apply the plaster in the usual way.
plaster was damp, walls not totally bare prior to coating, getting walls ready before work most important thing. pva mix ( 1 to 5 ) better to be safe. Bad mix
What do you mean blown away? Maybe you could try shutting the window so the wind wont blow
Seriously are you saying that the plaster has cracked and has fallen from the wall?
If so there are a number of reasons for this happening.
1) Plaster no good The plaster has become damp in the bag.
2) The plaster not properly mixed
3)The wall that you plastered has absorbed all the water in the mix before it has had time to go off.
What you must do is wet the wall before applying the plaster or use a PVA sealer but allow this to dry for 24hrs before you apply the plaster.
Once the wall has been plastered you must keep wetting the plaster by applying water to it keep it wet until it goes hard and has set.
If wall was sealed with pva , then the reason has to be either damp getting into the wall. Or you let it dry too quick which causes cracks. when you plaster you need to wet it a lot and let it dry slowly without heat. Hope this helps. I learned the hard way.
you may have used a out of date bag of plaster , if you have the bag the use by bate will be printed on the side, if not then you may not have sealed the wall using a strong pva / water solution which helps bond the plaster to the wall, you cannot mix plaster wrong as it is only powder and water mixed to a consistacy that suits the plasterer
