Can anyone tell me how to wire a phone line?

Question:About 10 years ago, my parents added on to our house. In my new room, several things were left unfinished, including my phone line. There are a couple wires sticking through a hole in the sheetrock, and I'd really like to make it a functional line. Can I do this myself, or do I need to hire someone who knows what he/she is doing?

If I CAN do it, can someone either walk me through it or point me to a website or something?

Thanks!

Answers:
Buy a stick on phone jack at any hardware store for about $5, they come with a wiring diagram as to what colors go where. Red and Green wires are for line one and Black and Yellow are for line two. Doing this is way too easy, but remember to take one of the other phones on the line off the hook because someone calling you while you are wiring the jack won't kill you but you will know you got a call! lmao

This mo doesn't know anything.

I work for Verizon, and there is only DC voltage in the phone line from our central office. No where near enough to cause phyiscal harm. Plus leaving a phone off the hook wouldn't do anything anyways cause the wires you are working on are still connected to the service drop. If you are concerned about safety just go outside to the Telephone Network Interface. Its a gray or green plastic box near your electric meter. Open it, and on the customer side, which is open, open the Network Interface Jack. It may be in a little gray cratridge or under a piece of inside wire held in by a metal wire loop, kinda like an oversized paper clip. Once that is open, all the wires inside the house are physically disconnected.

The best way to wire a jack is to use a drywall saw to cut a rectangular opening to accomodate a jack. You can get one at probably any hardware or home improvement store. Then attach the color coded wires and add the 2 screws to hold the jack to the wall. If you opened the Network Interface Jack, now go close it and the Telephone Network Interface. Then plug a phone in your new jack and bask in the glory of your own work.
I would ask a fellow by the name of Joshua L. W. if the above answers do not suffice. He's a genius; plus, he's really hott.
