Stone polishing for a fireplace?

Question:i have a fireplace with large stones on it and i would love to make them look different than what i've been living with forever is there anything i can do like some kind of polish that would make it shine or something?

Answers:
There is also stone sealer which often changes the appearance of stone and adds a gloss shine. TileLab makes one that really changes the appearance of slate and limestone. It somehow enhances the veining and color differences.

Po;ishing natural stone is very specialized both in skill and in equipment. Look in the yellow pages under granite countertops and ask around. I'm sure those who fabricate granite, marble, etc. have both the skill and the very expensive equipment.
Most "stones" used around fireplaces are not "polishable".
you might think about painting the whole thing either matching or
a contrasting color ie: pure white against off white, beige or colored walls is often a striking change. A semi-gloss or gloss paint will add a shine and make cleaning easier.
a masonry sealer will bring out a little shine...
"stone glamour" ... this is the name of the sealant to use. it will seal the stones and make them look wet and shiney ... very nice product ... we have been building custom fireplaces for 20 years and always use this for a nice shine ...totally changes the look and feel, more upscale and classy once sealed.
