Does a swamp cooler make heat?

Question:I know that sounds like a silly question, but I know air conditioners make more hot air than they do cool air requiring the condenser to be placed outside or vented. I was wondering if there was any heat output from a swamp cooler as well since I've always seen them mounted with the evaporating pads outside of buildings. I'd like to put a quick fix on my much-too-hot shop and simply set a swamp cooler in the middle of the floor, fill it with water and let it run. Will it cool the air as the fan circulates it throughout the room, or is there some heat output from the unit that will counteract the cooling process? Please help me figure out what to do in this heat!

Answers:
Putting the cooler in the same space that your trying to cool won't work as well, because the air will become saturated with moisture then you will begin to loose evaporation of the water, which is the reason they call it an evaporative cooler. If there isn,t evaporation then you will not have a cooling affect over your body surface.

i believe that the answer is yes. however, i believe that swamp coolers come with an exhaust hose, meant to be extended to the outdoors.
In a closed system, entropy will only rise. Entropy in this case is heat.

Say you took a big block of ice into the room and blew on it with a fan. It would cool the room. But the energy to make the ice ice would heat the room more than the ice cooled the room. However the ice was made into ice elsewhere, so your room doesn't get the heat.

The trick is to not be a closed system. Make the heat outside and put the cool where you want it. This is why in all cooling systems, the hot bit goes somewhere else. On an air conditioner, the hot air goes outside. On a fridge or freezer, the heat comes off the radiator outside the box. On a swamp cooler, the evaporator, evaporating off hot water molecules goes outside.

You cannot put a box in your room that will cool it without either it having a link to the outside to dump heat or it having been cooled below the room temp before you introduced it to the room.
The only heat coming off the cooler is the motor heat. A swamp cooler only cools the air by pulling air through the sides and back through straw filters and blows it out the front so set it up it will help
I use a evap in my shop. It won't heat up the place any, believe me. Some days would be impossible to work if I didn't have the cooler. The reason you see them mounted outside is that there are usually ducts running from the cooler, just like an a/c unit on a house or work place.
