What amperage should a washing mashine outlet be?
Question:
Answers:
20 on a circut by itself
My nephew, who is an electrical apprentice, told me it should be 20amps.
yeppers the boys are right 20 amp on it's own line to the fuse panel and breaker
use 20 amp if you want, but 15 will do, and it does not have to be on its own circuit. there is onle a motor in it. 120 volts times 15 amps equals 1800 watts. show me a washing machine with 1800 watts. nuff said
A 20 amp laundry circuit is required by code. This circuit cannot feed any receptacles outside of the laundry. It is code legal to install a 15 amp duplex receptacle on a 20 amp circuit. Because it is TWO receptacles. If you have a single receptacle on a 20 amp circuit, the receptacle has to be rated for 20 amps.
Where you plug your washing machine in would be your business. I'd plug it into a 20 amp circuit.
210.11(C)2
(2) Laundry Branch Circuits In addition to the number
of branch circuits required by other parts of this section, at
least one additional 20-ampere branch circuit shall be provided
to supply the laundry receptacle outlet(s) required by
210.52(F). This circuit shall have no other outlets.
edit:i bought the book,,,,that really dont mean i know anything,,,help me out here
yep 20 amp ckt will do it every time
wow, we put our washing machine on a 15amp duplex receptacle on it's own breaker. And becuase our house was so darn small, we had a 25 ft 12 ga ext. cord running up thru the floor and into that we plugged in an electric heater and a humidifier (small table top one) also a light and the phone. I've ran all of them (including the washer) at the same time and didnt' pop the circuit, so 20 amps is like overkill, LOL.
However.if you plan on selling your house one day, run the line according to code, so you won't have to change it later.
