How to build a deck around my bilco door?

Question:I would like to build a deck here in the rear of my house incorporating both sun room and kitchen walk out doors, however the bilco doors pose a problem. Short of moving bilco doors how do I incorporate into a deck?
I would like to attach photo to illustrate but can't find out how?

Answers:
I have thought about this one for a bit. I really can't think of any way to make this look and function well without moving the door.

You do not necessarily need to move it to a new location. You may be able to raise it up so the mounting lip is more or less at the same level as your deck.

The biggest problem here will be the steps. As the door gets higher, you will need more steps. If you raise straight up, the added steps will need to be at the bottom. No big deal if you have plenty of headroom in your basement wall.

If you don't have the headroom, you could extend the door away from the house and add the steps at the top. You could even leave your existing steps in place and just add at the top. Bilco make extension kits to serve this purpose, but you would still have some engineering to do to make it all work.

Hope this gives you some ideas.

You face a difficult situation, Bilco doors will eat up a great deal of space in the deck but I don't see how to eliminate the problem either. You might just keep the deck a couple feet away from the sides, but how to handle the steps down is also hard to figure out. You may need a design professional.
