Fill in brick wall? links to pics included?
Question:Filling in a brick wall? Links to pics included?
So i want to take out the smaller window and replace it with a much larger one.. and take out the bigger window altogether and just fill in that space with brick.. this is a brick veneer home
so when i comes to putting a bigger window in i will need to take out a good section of the curent brick wall to make a hole for the new window.. what did i need to do to keep all the brick above the new hole supported? There are the metal plates above the windows now.. do i need a longer one? Do you tie something into the framing behind. ? And for the window i am taking out entirely.. i imagine this is a bit of a easier process?
and tips.. links.. advice is appreciated..

yep, to put a bigger window in you will need a longer angle iron for support . approx. 8 in. longer than the opening is wide. doesnt look like you'll have a whole lot of weight on top so you will be okay resting the angle iron on existing brickwork without lagging to the wall. if you want to lag it. figure out where your studs will be, and have a couple of holes burnt in for your lag screws. take an extra brick out on the top course of the hole to set your angle on... got more questions , e-mail...
