Is an isolation valve a suitbale replacemnt for a stopcock?

Question:Due to the odd loaction of my mainswater stock **** which is basicaly in a door entrace way, I would like to change the stopcock for somthing less protruding like an isolating valve. This would then alow the piping and valve to be boxed in leaving a small hole for a screw driver.

I am also wanting to fit as an extra a surestop water isolating valve.

Answers:
the isolating valve is not a good choice as a mains stopcock!! nightmare to locate screwdriver in an emrgency situation and after time they start to weep at the iso point also they start to pass when in the closed position, by all means fit a sure stop as well as the iso valve but DO NOT rely on the iso as the main shut off point for your cold mains
