How to clean colored clam shells & how did the color get in them?
Question:I have some GIANT clam shells (and I mean REALLY big, they are about 8 inches in width and 6 inches in height) that I got from the lake. They are a beautiful purple color and I have a few that are blue as well as some that are blue and purple.
How would I clean these?? they still have some pieces of clam left (not a lot though) in them. Of course, I want to get the pieces of clam out of them and then clean them so they dont look all muddy.
How do I clean them without scratching them, and if I clean them, I am assuming the color will stay in them.
Also, how did the color get into them in the first place? I think It has something to do with the sun drying them, but I found most of them upside down with the outter shelling face up.
Any help would be appreciated. :)
Answers:
soap and water!!!!!!! and wash it pretty good
Like 'lily' said, soap and water. The color got into them from the environment. The sun had nothing to do with it. Clams suck up mud and extract nutrients from it and the mud leaves behind certain elements that influence shell color.
