Are prefabricated crown molding corners supposed to be "flush"?
Question:We are in the midst of a project to put up crown molding in one of our rooms. We purchased the molding AND the prefab inside and outside corners. I thought that cw was supposed to be "flush" even around corners. However, the prefab corners protrude beyond the crown molding pieces that converge at that corner. Believe me, we don't want to rent special equipment and drive ourselves crazy with cutting the molding at the "right" angles for our walls and the molding. I'm OK to use the prefab corners, I just want to make sure that we aren't doing something completely ridiculous. Any guidance would be much appreciated!!
Answers:
The pre-fab corners are made slightly larger so they do protrude beyond the crown molding.
This is done to allow for any imperfections in the wall and to give some depth to the molding.
Some walls are really screwed up and it would be next to impossible to make anything flush, so that is why they are made that way.
Keep going, it will look great when your done, just remember to caulk where moldings hit corners.
No, generally the corners are not flush. If you want flush you'll have to cut the crown molding.
those guys are right its made to stick out a little bit
