Hope that helps!
What I would recommend to you is to subscribe to Family Handyman magazine. It's $15 (I think) for a year's subscription and is chocked full of handy inside and outside tips and projects. You can also check out their web site at familyhandyman.com. I subscribed a year ago and I really look forward to getting the next subscription every month. They give you helpful hints and tips on everything from rewiring a room to putting in new raised wall flower beds. There is stuff for every skill level. Give it a gander when you get a chance and see what you think.
In the OOld days I use to read a thing called Reader Digest Complete Do-It-Yourself Manual, it's a thing usually in bookcases at a little known place called a library, anyway sandwiched between two stiff pieces of cardboard are these pieces of paper with pictures and explanations of tasks to preform involving everything from how to screw in a light bulb to building everything from simple furniture to adding on to your house, I know it is difficult because instead of clicking "next" you need to turn the piece of paper to read for further information.

I will feel your pain in the next power outage
