I was thinking that you should check with the EPA before you sell a hazardous material. What kind of corrosion does a 15 year old tank that has been sitting outdoors have?
Call your local propane company. They may be interested in purchasing your tank. If not, they may be able to tell you where you can sell it.
Check gas company first then a metal recovery shop. You might end up paying to get rid of it. It can be cut up and melted down but the procedure for doing pressure gas tanks is a hassle.
where else would a propane tank sit? list in your newspaper that is a good price! most communities have a american classified you can list items for free.
If you plan on selling it have your propane company come out and update the regulator and whatever else needs replaced, this might cost you a few bucks, I would also take the time to repaint it as well, also the propane company can check it for leaks and remove any propane that is left in it so it is safe to move...new 1,000 gallon tanks were going for $1200 to $1500 severa years ago, if you get everything checked on it you should be able to get at least half of that or maybe a little more if you paint it and get it looking good. I would say it would be worth the money to fix it up and sell it, put ads in any free papers in your area and you should get a good response.
